Meat, PotatoES And...asthma?
The South Bronx community of Hunts Point is home to one of the largest food distribution facilities in the U.S. It's also one of our poorest congressional districts with the highest rates of obesity and asthma. For 15-weeks during the spring of 2011, Amy Findess, Angeles Cortesi, Kelly Tierney and I navigated this unexpected ecosystem. The resulting report, Food Fights: Objective Environments, details some of the [in]visible infrastructures–political, social, economic and environmental–that effect food production, distribution and consumption...and served as a framework for speculating on more sustainable° alternatives.
